What BugBot keeps about you

BugBot is where you learn Python by programming a robot. If you use it on your own, everything stays on your computer. If your teacher puts you in a class, a little is saved so your teacher can see how you are getting on. This page says exactly what.

If you are not in a class

Nothing is sent to us. Your progress is saved in your own browser, and clearing the browser forgets it.

If you are in a class

We save:

• Who you are in the class. Either the nickname you typed, or, if your teacher uses a class list, the name your teacher typed and your school student number or school email address.
• Your work. Which lesson you are on, which tasks you tried and passed, each different program you ran (so your teacher can see how your work got there), what you hand in and when, your teacher's marks and comments on it, and the last error it gave. During a test, your teacher also sees how many times you tried to paste and how many times you left the test page. At the end of a lesson, your teacher sees how many quiz questions you got right first time, and which ones you did not.
• When. When you joined and when you last did something.

You never need a new account or a password. If your class uses school sign-in, you sign in with the school Google or Microsoft account you already have, and we only get your email address from it.

Who can see it

• Your teacher, for their own classes.
• You, your own work and nobody else's.
• Other students cannot see your work, your student number or your email address. In a competition room, everyone in the room sees the name you type there and how your robot did.
• BugBotLab, the company that makes BugBot, only to keep it working or when your school asks us to.

Your student number

If your class uses a class list, you sign in by typing your student number while your teacher has the class open. Keep it to yourself: someone who knows it could sign in as you in that lesson. If that happens, tell your teacher, who can see who signed in and undo it. When you finish on a shared computer, press Leave so the next person is not signed in as you.

What we never do

• We never sell your information or show you adverts.
• We never use your work to train AI.
• We never ask for your date of birth, address, photo or email.

How long we keep it

Until your teacher removes you from the class or deletes the class. If nobody uses the class for a year, it is deleted automatically.

Getting it deleted, or seeing a copy

Ask your teacher. They can delete your record straight away, and your school is in charge of your class data. Parents can ask the school too, or email us at info@bugbotlab.com and we will pass it to the school and help. If you are not happy with how your information is looked after, you can tell the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
