The short version

• The lessons, the simulator and the competitions are free for everyone, with no account.
• BugBot Teach gives teachers class codes, a live view of the class, progress, answer keys and teaching materials. Every teacher gets a 30-day free trial of everything. After that, one class stays free, and a paid plan unlocks the rest.
• Plans are paid yearly in advance, on invoice with a purchase order or by card. Nothing renews on an invoice without a new order.
• Cancel within 30 days of your first paid year for a full refund.
• The school owns its class data. We process it only to run the service, under our data processing agreement, which applies to every school automatically.

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

These terms are between BugBotLab Ltd (registered in England and Wales, company number 16669242, registered office 103 Ouseley Road, Wraysbury, Staines-Upon-Thames, TW19 5JJ; "we") and the school, college, club or person using the service ("you"). When a teacher accepts them for a school, they accept them for the school and confirm they are allowed to.

They cover the websites at bugbotlab.com (the lessons, competitions, simulator and documentation) and the teacher tools at teach.bugbotlab.com ("BugBot Teach"), together "the service". Robots and other hardware will be sold on separate terms, published before they go on sale.

2. The free service

Anyone can use the lessons, the simulator and the competitions free of charge and without an account. Progress is kept in the student's own browser unless they join a class. We may change or improve the free service, and we will not remove the core lessons without at least one school term's notice.

3. BugBot Teach: trial, free class and plans

Trial

Every new teacher account gets 30 days of the School plan free, starting when the teacher makes their first class. No card or order is needed. We will extend a trial on request, for example to cover a school holiday.

Without a plan

When a trial ends without a plan, the teacher keeps one class of up to 15 students with class codes, the live class view and the progress board, free of charge. The paid features are then locked: answer keys, lesson plans, slides and worksheets, assignments, module locks, certificates, custom tasks, more classes, and the school view. Nothing is deleted, and the teacher can always see their class data, download it as a mark book, and delete it.

Plans

The Teacher plan's 150 students means 150 different students who join any of that teacher's classes during the plan year. We never stop a student joining or working in the middle of a lesson. If a teacher goes over the limit, we will ask them to move to the School plan at the next renewal.

A plan starts on the date we confirm the order and lasts for the period paid for. Prices exclude VAT, which is added where it applies.

Early access

While BugBot is in early access, the teacher tools are free to use. We will give every teacher at least 30 days' notice by email before paid plans start, and the 30-day trial applies from then.

4. Paying, renewing and cancelling

• Invoice. Schools can pay on invoice with a purchase order. Invoices are due within 30 days.
• Card. Teachers can also pay by card through our payment provider. Card plans renew automatically each year. We email 30 days before the renewal date, and you can cancel any time before it.
• Renewal on invoice. Invoice plans do not renew by themselves. We send a renewal quote 60 days before the end date, and the plan continues when you place a new order.
• Refunds. If you cancel within 30 days of the start of your first paid year, we refund you in full. After that we do not refund part years, except where section 9 says so.
• Price changes. The price you paid is fixed for the period you paid for. We will tell you about any new price at least 60 days before your renewal.
• Late payment. If an invoice is more than 30 days overdue, we will remind you, and we may move the account to the free class 14 days after that reminder. No data is deleted because of late payment.

5. Support and service levels

• Email info@bugbotlab.com, or use Report a problem in BugBot Teach. We reply within two working days, and we aim for the same day during school hours in term time.
• We aim for the service to be available 99.5% of each month. Planned work happens outside UK school hours, with notice in BugBot Teach where it could affect a lesson.
• If something breaks during the school day, we post updates in BugBot Teach until it is fixed.
• Plans include help getting started: a short call or video session for a department, on request.

6. Using the service properly

You agree to use the service for teaching and learning, and not to:

• try to get into data or accounts that are not yours, or test the security of the service without our written permission;
• overload, disrupt or copy the service in bulk, or resell access to it;
• put personal data into the service beyond what it asks for. Students should use nicknames, and programs should not contain personal details;
• share answer keys, lesson plans or teaching materials outside your school or organisation.

Teachers are responsible for their own accounts and for how the class codes they create are shared. Tell us straight away if you think an account has been misused.

7. Your data

For class data (class codes, student nicknames, progress, programs, hints and assignments), the school is the controller and we are the processor. Our data processing agreement forms part of these terms for every school, on every plan, during a trial and during free use. A school can ask for a copy signed by us at any time. How we handle personal data is set out in the privacy notice.

Students' programs and the tasks teachers create belong to the student, the teacher or the school, as the case may be. You give us permission to store and show them only so that the service works.

8. Our content

The lessons, tasks, simulator, answer keys, lesson plans, slides and worksheets belong to BugBotLab Ltd. While you have access to them, you may use, print, adapt and share them within your school or organisation for teaching. The robot's firmware and hardware designs are published separately under the MIT licence, and that licence applies to them.

9. If things go wrong

• We provide the service with reasonable skill and care, and we will fix faults we are told about within a reasonable time.
• If we stop providing a paid plan, or it fails in a way we cannot fix within 30 days of you telling us, you can end the plan and we will refund the unused part of what you paid.
• Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the fees you paid us in those 12 months, or £500 if that is higher. We are not liable for indirect losses, or for loss of profit, revenue or goodwill.
• Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. If you are a consumer, you keep your legal rights.

10. Ending the service

You can stop using the service, or delete your classes and account, at any time. When a plan ends, the account moves to the free class. Class data is then kept and deleted as the privacy notice says, or sooner if you ask. We may suspend an account that breaks section 6, and we will tell you why unless the law or security prevents it.

11. Pilots

We run a small number of free pilots, each lasting one school term, with schools that agree to give feedback. A pilot is on these terms, with the School plan free for the pilot period. We will only quote the school or use its name if the school agrees in writing.

12. Changes and the law

We may update these terms. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email of any change that reduces your rights, and the change will not apply to a period you have already paid for unless you agree. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute. Please talk to us first at info@bugbotlab.com; most problems can be settled quickly that way.
